Dr. Salma Jamoussi is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Sfax in the Higher Institute of Computer Science and Multimedia (ISIMS). She graduated with an engineering degree from the National School of Computer Sciences (ENSI) in 1998, and the Tunisian government awarded her master’s and doctoral merit scholarships in France. She obtained her Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence in 2004 from the University of Lorraine, France.
She first, conducted her research activities in the Speech Team at the INRIA Lorraine laboratory. Then, she integrated the Multimedia, Information Systems and Advanced Computing Laboratory (MIRACL) at ISIMS.
Currently, she is an associate researcher at the Digital Research Center of Sfax where she leads the Social Media Mining Team. She was also elected several times as a member of the scientific council of her affiliation Institute and afterwards to the council of the university of Sfax.
Dr. Salma Jamoussi conducts her research activities in the area of Artificial
Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing and she is particularly interested in social data analytics and mining. Therefore, she and her team are working on using machine learning methods, as well as bioinspired paradigms in order to address a wide range of subjects related to the social media data.
Especially, evolving data streams analysis, high dimensional data modelling, user profiling, sentiment and emotion identification, user behaviour prediction, etc.
She supervised more than thirty master internships and more than ten PhD works and has more than one hundred publications in international peer reviewed journals and conferences. Additionally, she participated in numerous scientific committees for national and international conferences and was invited to speak at numerous scientific events about the fundamentals of deep learning and machine learning, more frequently
about how they can be used to deal with social data and user profiling problems.
She also has integrated several international research projects on the use of the Artificial Intelligence methods and tools to strengthen social peace and security in Tunisia. In this frame, she participated in international projects related to cybersecurity issues that aim to fight radicalisation of teenagers and young people on social networks. She also coordinates a research project with the United Nations Development Programme in Tunisia to assist decisionmakers and stakeholders in dealing with the spread of hate speech on social media in the Tunisian context.
